Protesters fill Tahrir Square once again

Once again protesters in Egypt are filling up Tahrir Square in the same place that the revolution started.  This time they are asking for the removal of the Head of Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Hussein Tantawi.  The protesters are saying he is very much as bad as the longtime Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak.

Protesters and Troops in Tahrir Square

Saturday night, the protesters were meet with force from the military, who were trying to clear the square.  Protesters are not backing down, as the Council warn again that they will use force to clear all protesters from Tahrir Square.  Although protesters and the pro-democratic Egyptians have received the main thing they have wanted, which was to get rid of Hosni Mubarak, they are now facing other issues.  Right now the pro-democratic movement is facing opposition from the Egyptian Military, who stepped in after Mubarak was ousted.

The death toll is not officially known after the Saturday attack on protesters, but most say it stands at 1 or 2 people.  Protesters were attacked after they broke the 2 A.M. Curfew, by troops with electric batons, who also fired in the air in attempts to disperse the protesters.  After trying to disperse the protesters, the military blocked all entrances to the Square.  Some protesters left the square hoping to not cause any more conflict, but others stayed in defiance and anger, even throwing rocks at the troops.

Protests in Tahrir Square

Protesters are starting to accuse the Military of helping Mubarak, as they have still not started to charge him with corruption.  These protests are likely to continue throughout the coming days, as once daylight returned to the Square, so did the protesters to the site of burning military vehicles.

Larry Page takes Google CEO Title, and makes major changes

Larry Page, the famous co-founder of Google, has taken the title of Google's CEO which may be marking a new  chapter of Google's history.  Along with becoming Google's CEO, Page is making some major changes in the Top Executive Staff.  These changes have also positioned Page so that he is very much in charge of the Search Engine Giant.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin

Within only a few days of becoming Google's CEO, Page has appointed several executives, who will now be reporting directly to him.  This is in an attempt to speed up decision making, as well as give the highest amount of power possible to Page himself.  Although Google is continuing to stay ahead of all other Search Engines, there are competitors who have and will continue to challenge Google.  Because of this, it is a very wise move for Page to restructure his management team.

Eric Schmidt, Larry Page and Sergey Brin

Over the years, the CEO title has been given to different people.  The first CEO of Google was Page before the title was given to Eric Schmidt in 2001, along with Page and Schmidt, Sergey Brin (Another Google Co-Founder) has also been a major decision maker for Google.  Even though Larry Page has not held the highest title of CEO, he has always continued to help other Google CEO's to make some of the biggest decisions.

Dual-Camera iPad to come soon?

The biggest downfall of the Apple iPad since its release has been the lack of any cameras.  Well Apple is supposedly getting ready for a dual-camera iPad release, early in 2011.  This will ensure the iPads survival as newer tablets come out, especially even since it has led the pack without any cameras.

These are just rumors unfortunately, and some say the new model may not have any cameras, and will only feature a slimmer, lighter design.  Hopefully we will know which rumors are true by the beginning of 2011.  So make sure to check back, as we will keep you updated with the new Apple iPad rumors and facts.

PayPal finally cuts off WikiLeaks

The popular money-transfer site, PayPal, shut out the account used for fundraising by the notorious website, WikiLeaks.  PayPal posted the following, on their blog Friday.

"PayPal has permanently restricted the account used by WikiLeaks due to a violation of the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity. We've notified the account holder of this action."

The WikiLeaks site has been very controversial since it released more than 250,000 confidential U.S. documents.  Within the previous weeks, especially the past week, WikiLeaks has been trying to stay afloat as the U.S. government has made efforts to shut them down.

Right now, WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, is in the process of being arrested due to non-WikiLeaks charges.  Since the site has been under heavy fire from the U.S. it has found new homes under the domain names, http://wikileaks.ch/, http://wikileaks.de, and wikileaks.fi.  Even though the majority of things WikiLeaks have posted are actually just embarassing, there are still some documents which could pose a threat to peoples lives.  Which, is the most controversial part of what they have done.

Stay tuned to MyTechUpdater, as this story will undoubtedly grow in the coming weeks.  And, make sure to leave a comment, Do You think that what WkiLeaks is doing is right?

Google may be buying Groupon? For $6 Billion!

To start off, the rumors stating that Google bought Groupon for $2.5 billion, is indeed false.  According to multiple sources, Google is working on a deal to buy the company for something between the low $5 billions and $6 billion.   Yahoo! tried to acquire Groupon, early in the year but did not succeed.

This will be the most expensive deal to date for Google, with the previous being DoubleClick.  This deal reportedly could go through by the end of this week, though there are still many things that could happen to keep this deal from occurring. Google has originally proposed $3 to $4 billion dollars but that offer was refused.

If this deal goes through it will not only be the most expensive but also a very strategic move on Google's part.  Groupon has not only become a billion dollar company but would also bring something amazing to Google, that they currently lack.  This is local company ads, which is not really seen at all with Google.  So, we should know soon what will be happening with the Google/Groupon deal.

Make sure to check back for updates on this Google proposal.

Apple is finally making things affordable!

Starting today, Apple has finally given customers a big break, by lowering their prices on many of the main Apple devices.

Here are some examples -

Device
Price Reduction
Apple iPad
($41)
iPod Touch
($41)
iPod Nano
($21)
MacBook's
($101)

Even though most of these are not big changes in price, it still shows that Apple is finally working towards making things affordable.  This is surprising since Apple has rarely ever lowered prices on their devices.  So, hopefully they will continue to lower prices, which will help us all out.
